I solved the deficit! →
Today, you’re in charge of the nation’s finances. Some of your options have more short-term savings and some have more long-term savings. When you have closed the budget gaps for both 2015 and 2030, you are done. Make your own plan, then share it online. Not surprisingly, my solution to the deficit is mostly to tax the corporations and the wealthy. I also cut military spending, reduced troop...

PZ has some astute observations about S.E. Cupp. I still think she’s a fake.

Happy holidays!
I’m back! (mostly). I had the great fortune of getting food poisoning or a stomach bug on Christmas eve and had 48 hours of awfulness. Only the first 12 were really, really bad though. On Christmas I just felt deathly tired. What great timing, right? My family did a gifts-for-$10-or-less-Christmas, which was great for my budget. Delayed flight but at least there's music!
The quartet at the airport, which was playing christmas music, just switched to a medley from “Fiddler on the Roof.” Interesting choice but I’m loving it!

I generally like Ricky Gervais and this is a good article. I just watched his new special on HBO last night, however, and it was mostly unfunny and offensive. Quite disappointing.

Skepchick » Ask Surly Amy: Is The Santa Myth Bad? →
Definitely an interesting parenting question for skeptics. I can’t be sure what I would do until I have kids, but I think I would lean towards not pushing the Santa myth. I kind of like the idea of making it an exercise in skepticism, but I think that could be accomplished without misleading your kids.  What would you do?

President Obama: Tell General Amos to apologize or... →
President Obama: It is offensive, outrageous and false for General James Amos, commandant of the Marine Corps, to claim that Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell repeal would lead to soldiers dying and losing their limbs. General Amos needs to either apologize or resign immediately.

Laugh or Cry?
You know when you don’t get a particular job, and you look at who they did hire, and can’t see how that person is in any way more qualified than you?  Yeah, I hate that.

Olbermann’s Special Comment from tonight. ”[…] the easiest way to create jobs and keep jobs is to make sure that the unemployed continue to have money to spend. The unemployed, unlike the rich (whom this president has just bowed to), are in fact the job creators. They do not have investment portfolios to expand, they do not have vast savings into which to stuff the government...
