– Kiernan Shipka, the 10 year-old actress who plays Sally Draper on Mad Men Surprisingly astute and thoughtful character assessment from an actress who has been playing this character for roughly a third of her life.

White House White Board (2 min) This is a pretty good video. I wish there were more Democrats (or any??) that would get out there in the media and use visual aids to explain the tax situation and illustrate why their position is right for the American people. Every single Democrat should repeat, “it doesn’t make any sense, it costs too much money and we know it doesn’t...

jonathan-cunningham: thesmithian: NPR asks if the reporter “went too far.” “Can you imagine them [WAGA-TV] doing this if this were a female rape victim?” It is very creepy that they flew to this man’s town to ambush him for an interview late at night. I hope these young men can find justice for what was done to them.

Freerice.com →
I had forgotten about this site but glad I rediscovered it. It’s really worth a few minutes of your time. For every question you get right (there are many subjects), they will donate 10 grains of rice through the World Food Programme.  There are groups you can join and I’ve just joined “Atheists Giving Aid,” the #5 top group.

Pew Forum | U.S. Religious Knowledge Quiz →
Lots of people have been talking about the recent survey that showed atheists and agnostics were the most knowledgeable about religion. Here’s a quiz with 15 out of the 32 they asked. I also looked at the pdf of all the questions they asked. I would have had to guess on three of the questions so even if I got all of them wrong, my score would have still been 29/32, putting me in the top 2%....

On disrespecting god.
dearcoketalk: I am a beautiful, intelligent, confident, and capable 18 year old girl (or woman… fuck if I know). I have beautiful eyes and lips but my huge-as-fuck nose throws it all off. It isn’t RIDICULOUSLY huge, but having a straight and petite nose would lead me to resemble the spawn of Brangelina. I’m risking sounding like a vain douchebag so you know that I’m not a whiny and insecure...

GOP pits culture war against civil rights A masterful segment from Rachel Maddow making the case that the Republicans are lying about their reasons for blocking debate on DADT, for the administration to stop enforcing this policy immediately, and for the Democrats to campaign on this issue because the numbers are on our side. Brilliant!

How Honor Can Remake Society (KWAME ANTHONY APPIAH) History has proven that the best way to end immoral practices like slavery, dueling, and foot-binding has been to appeal to one’s sense of honor.

Pregnant Women Need Fear No Cell Phone Radiation:... →
Fact check: most of the radiation that a cell phone emits is actually a low-frequency, non-harmful type of radiation called non-ionizing radiation. It doesn’t contain enough energy to remove electrons from an atom, unlike higher-energy, higher-frequency, known-to-be harmful radiations like x-rays and UV light. … Laura Riley, medical director of labor and delivery at Massachusetts General...

Huckabee Opposes Insurance For People With...
jonathan-cunningham: silas216: Amplify’d from tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com When Republicans attack health care reform, Democrats like to counter by accusing Republicans of wanting to repeal a law that requires insurance companies to cover people with pre-existing conditions. According to Republican Presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee, that’s exactly right. People with pre-existing conditions,...

Stephen Fry's response to the Daily Mail →
thegreatmorass: Stephen Fry has blogged in response the Daily Mail accusing him of leading an “atheist hate campaign” against the Pope. It is a very thoughtful and considered response to the shrieking hysteria of the newspaper article, which outlines that he has no problem with the Pope visiting, he just questions the “state visit” nature of the trip (when the state the pope ‘represents’ is in...
