Merry Christmas! People would be amazed that 1) many non-Christians celebrate the holiday season and 2) many Christians unknowingly implement pagan traditions into their commemoration of the baby Jesus.
This video takes a quick glance at just a few beloved Christmas traditions and some of their origins.

Happy holidays!
I’m back! (mostly). I had the great fortune of getting food poisoning or a stomach bug on Christmas eve and had 48 hours of awfulness. Only the first 12 were really, really bad though. On Christmas I just felt deathly tired. What great timing, right?
My family did a gifts-for-$10-or-less-Christmas, which was great for my budget. I got some pretty cool things like a pastry cutter, pastry scraper, the Ratio cookbook, and embroidered tea towels (can you tell I like to bake?). I also got an iTunes gift card, which will be put to use very soon.
Anyway, now I just have to hope that I’m feeling well for my birthday on Tuesday :-)
I hope you all had a great Solstice/Festivus/Christmas/Whatever!
Simon Singh’s Xmas card from professor Edzard Ernst, dedicated to homeopaths everywhere. Yuk yuk yuk.

Skepchick » Ask Surly Amy: Is The Santa Myth Bad?
Definitely an interesting parenting question for skeptics. I can’t be sure what I would do until I have kids, but I think I would lean towards not pushing the Santa myth. I kind of like the idea of making it an exercise in skepticism, but I think that could be accomplished without misleading your kids.
What would you do?
